Christmas Presents For Pets

Many local pet retailers have a visit with Santa planned for pets. What is your pet asking Santa for this Christmas?

In 2014, Americans will have spent approximately $58.5 Billion (yes, that’s a “B”) on pets. A good hunk of that, about $14 Billion, will go to over the counter medicines, supplies and toys. Toys!

That’s a lot of Christmas presents for pets!

FullSizeRenderThis year our family added a new dog, Linus, which means he needs a Christmas stocking to match our other pup’s stocking. So, we’ve invested about $20 in his Christmas present already. Unfortunately for our holiday spending budget, we’ll most likely make a mad dash on Christmas eve and overspend on our pups just as we do every year…but that’s ok with us.

How about you? Are you spending big on your pets this year? Comment below and let us know!

In the meantime, enjoy a video of some happy puppies opening their Christmas presents:

Dog Faints When Reunited With Owner

Casey the Dog Faints From Happiness

Dog Faints

Screenshot from YouTube

Casey’s owner, Rebecca Ehalt, has just returned from two years working in Europe. Her dog Casey remained behind with Rebecca’s family.

When Casey was finally reunited with Rebecca, the dog faints from all the excitement. It’s a heartwarming example of loyalty from man’s best friend.

Rebecca did take Casey, and the video of her reunion with her loyal pal, to her vet who gave them the “all-clear” that Casey was perfectly fine. See their happy encounter here:

While it was a two year absence, Rebecca does remind everyone on the video’s page that although she returned after 2 years, “in fairness [it] is 14 years in dog years.”

Pit Bull Puppy and Baby Love Snuggling

A Viral Video of a Pit Bull Puppy and Baby Melts Hearts

Pit Bull Puppy and Baby

Snuggle Buddies Eisleigh and Clyde

No doubt by now you’ve seen the video of a 10 week old pit bull puppy named Clyde cozying up to a 10-month old baby named Eisleigh. If so, you’re probably still clearing the lump from your throat and making excuses for the happy tears forming in your eyes.

Eisleigh’s mom, Brandi, says the two have been inseparable since they brought Clyde home. Brandi’s Instagram account has gained lots of new followers with her adorable pictures of Eisleigh and Clyde’s cuddle adventures. But nothing has proven as popular as this video.

The video has already earned over a 2 million views on YouTube and is still climbing. So, take a moment to share this post with your pet loving friends and let them see what real puppy love is all about.

Windermere Pet Sitters Says: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Pets

Is Your Pet Recycled?

Windermere Pet SittersHere at Big Paw Pet Care we’re huge fans of reducing our imprint on the Earth. From online reservations to reduce paper, to supplying our staff with 100% biodegradable poop bags from Earth Rated. But we promote an even bigger recycling program that impacts our entire community: pet adoption.

Pet shelters are still dealing with the overflow of unwanted pets due to the economic downturn of the last few years. Thousands of pets have been left at shelters and brought into rescues, waiting to be “recycled” into their new home.

Don’t Shop, Adopt!

Windermere Pet SittersWhen you’re looking to expand your family with a pet, many of us are looking for a specific breed. For that we turn to “puppy stores” or classified ads listing the breed as for sale. But did you know that 25% of shelter pets are pure breed? (Source: The Humane Society of the United States)

That means families just like yours made the trip to the breeder or puppy store and bought a pure bred pet only to decide they couldn’t care for it. Backyard breeders and puppy stores contribute greatly to the number of unwanted pets in our area just to turn a quick buck. Many stores sell sick, inbred or other ill pets produced on the many “puppy mills” spread throughout the country. With little regulation or oversight, puppy mills always put profit over the health and well being of the animals they produce. (Source: DoSomething.org)

Help Your Windermere Pet Sitters Rescue Pets

Windermere Pet SittersWhen you are looking for a new pet, consider first stopping by your local humane society or county shelter. If you can’t find the pet you have dreamed of there, visit the many breed and size specific rescues throughout Central Florida. (A great resource is Urban Pet Magazine.)

If your not ready to adopt but you want to help unwanted pets you can always donate money or time to your local shelter or rescue. You can even do something out of the ordinary like take a Pet CPR and First Aid Class benefitting the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. A portion of each class fee is donated directly to the The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.

Pet First Aid 2013

Pet First Aid Classes: Saving Even More Pets

We’ve had a great year with our Pet First Aid and CPR classes. We started off this year by helping pet owners like you earn a Pet CPR and Pet First Aid certification to care for their own pets in the event of an emergency. As the year progressed we were able to help local pet-businesses, pet sitters and pet boarding facilities earn certifications for their staff.

Most importantly we were able to roll out special Pet First Aid classes to support the missions of local pet charities like Pookie’s Rescuefest and the SPCA of Central Florida. We’ve raised over $1000 for the SPCA of Central Florida. With the economy still in the dull drums pets are still being abandoned at an alarming rate. Your support has helped ensure a second chance for hundreds of local pets.

Our final class of 2013 will benefit the SPCA of Central Florida. We’ll be holding it in the Community Room of the SPCA’s Orlando location near the Mall at Millenia. Space is EXTREMELY limited and fills quickly at this popular location. Please remember, even if you register online your space is not reserved 100% until your payment is made.
