Walk With Your Dog: Help Yourself

walking with your dogWhen I was in the Air Force, we had to wear boots for work. I had never worn boots before. I left the Air Force after my first hitch. One thing I noticed immediately was my ankles had become very weak. My boots had been supporting my ankles for years and therefore my muscles hadn’t had to support my natural body movement.

Make An Effort

There is an old adage if you don’t use it you lose it. If you’ve ever broke a bone & had a cast, when you take that cast off, you’ll notice your arm or your leg is a lot thinner as it was when the cast was put on.

Muscles will atrophy if you do not use them. this pertains to walking as well. Human beings as well as dogs are built to move. We are not too far removed from our wild ancestors.

Take A Walk with Your Dog

A 20 minute daily walk reduces the person’s risk of death by 30%. I predict you’ll be hearing this more often, “sitting is the new smoking”. This can also be a great bonding experience between you and your dog. So get up and take a walk with your dog. In addition to the physical health benefits, daily dog walking of 60 minutes or more reduces dog anxiety, improves your dogs behavior and makes your pup very happy.
So, let’s get walking and take your dog with you.
